Police: Hudson man with prior conviction stole $59 in goods from West Boylston Walmart

WEST BOYLSTON โ€” On Sunday, August 17, 2025, at approximately 10:48 a.m., West Boylston Police Sergeant Thomas Balvin was dispatched to the Walmart at 137 West Boylston Street after an asset protection employee called 911 to report that he had a shoplifter in custody.

โ€œUpon my arrival, Patrolman [David] Westerman and I went to the security office,โ€ Sgt. Balvin said. โ€œAsset protection employee, Jason [last name redacted], had the shoplifter, James D’Angelo in the office along with a bag of merchandise D’Angelo had taken.โ€

According to Sgt. Thomas Balvin, Dโ€™Angelo passed all points of sale with the merchandise and was stopped as he exited the store. Dโ€™Angelo had $59.12 worth of merchandise in his possession.

According to police, James M. Dโ€™Angelo, 66, is a resident of Hudson, MA.

โ€œ[Jason] said he and the other asset protection were surveilling D’Angelo during previous incidents,โ€ Sgt. Balvin said. โ€œD’Angelo was not apprehended at those times. The last incident was on July 13, 2025, at that time, D’Angelo left the store with $174.93 in merchandise.โ€

Sergeant Balvin noted that Dโ€™Angelo has a prior shoplifting conviction from 2003 in Marlborough District Court.

โ€œD’Angelo was informed he will be charged with shoplifting and will receive a summons for Clinton District Court,โ€ Sgt. Balvin said. โ€œHe was trespassed from the store.โ€

James Dโ€™Angelo was charged with:

  • Shoplifting 2nd Offense

Dโ€™Angeloโ€™s arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 18, 2025, in Clinton District Court.
