WEST BOYLSTON — On Sunday, August 17, 2025, at approximately 10:48 a.m., West Boylston Police Sergeant Thomas Balvin was dispatched to the Walmart at 137 West Boylston Street after an asset protection employee called 911 to report that he had a shoplifter in custody.

“Upon my arrival, Patrolman [David] Westerman and I went to the security office,” Sgt. Balvin said. “Asset protection employee, Jason [last name redacted], had the shoplifter, James D’Angelo in the office along with a bag of merchandise D’Angelo had taken.”
According to Sgt. Thomas Balvin, D’Angelo passed all points of sale with the merchandise and was stopped as he exited the store. D’Angelo had $59.12 worth of merchandise in his possession.
According to police, James M. D’Angelo, 66, is a resident of Hudson, MA.

“[Jason] said he and the other asset protection were surveilling D’Angelo during previous incidents,” Sgt. Balvin said. “D’Angelo was not apprehended at those times. The last incident was on July 13, 2025, at that time, D’Angelo left the store with $174.93 in merchandise.”
Sergeant Balvin noted that D’Angelo has a prior shoplifting conviction from 2003 in Marlborough District Court.
“D’Angelo was informed he will be charged with shoplifting and will receive a summons for Clinton District Court,” Sgt. Balvin said. “He was trespassed from the store.”

D’Angelo’s arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 18, 2025, in Clinton District Court.
