Berlin police investigating report of possible shots fired at Highland Commons

BERLIN — On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Berlin Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress in the northwest area of the Highland Commons parking lot.

According to Berlin Police Chief Eric Schartner, while police were en route, they were updated about possible shots fired.

Chief Schartner said they are working with the Massachusetts State Police to process the crime scene and investigate the incident.

As of Tuesday evening, the northwest area of the Highland Commons parking lot remained closed while police continued investigating.

Chief Schartner said there is no ongoing threat to the community, but asked the public to avoid the area while officers continue processing evidence and investigating.

Additional information will be released through the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office as it becomes available, Chief Schartner said.
