LOWELL — Massachusetts State Police have confirmed they are investigating a report of a person who appears to be armed near the Riverview Suites on Middlesex Street in Lowell.
In a statement posted to social media at about 3:47 p.m. today, the agency acknowledged the existence of a video “circulating of a person who appears to be armed walking in Lowell near the Riverview Suites on Middlesex Street.”
State and local law enforcement officers have responded to the area to investigate further.
The Lowell Police Department also issued a community advisory noting heightened police presence in the surrounding area.
“There is currently increased police activity in the area of Middlesex Street, Pawtucket Street, and Broadway Street,” the advisory read. “Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area. Thank you.”
Authorities are asking anyone with relevant information to call 911.
