Newbury firefighters respond to fire at Bob Lobster restaurant

NEWBURY — On Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, just after 4:00 p.m., firefighters with the Newbury Fire Department were dispatched to Bob Lobster at 49 Plum Island Turnpike after a 911 call reported a possible structure fire.

According to a statement from Newbury Fire Chief David Evans, when crews arrived on scene, they found out three employees had evacuated the seafood shack as smoke was coming from the building’s roof.

“A lieutenant on scene declared a working fire to bring mutual aid companies to the scene,” Chief Evans said in his statement. “Companies quickly knocked down a small fire in the building’s roof but then needed an extensive amount of time to chase and locate hot spots inside the one-story building’s roof area and inside the walls.”

Newbury police briefly closed Plum Island Turnpike to allow fire apparatus to access the area.

The Town of Newbury’s building, health and electrical inspectors provided support at the scene, Chief Evans said.

Newbury firefighters were assisted on scene by crews from Newburyport, Rowley and Georgetown, while firefighters from West Newbury, Salisbury, Groveland and Amesbury covered Newbury stations.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Newbury Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
