TEWKSBURY — On Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at approximately 9:23 p.m., Tewksbury police were notified of a disturbance at the Motel 6 on Main Street.
According to a statement from Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus, a preliminary investigation conducted by officers at the scene determined that a man — later identified as Jean Guzman Familia — entered a room at the motel without authorization and forcibly took a cell phone from a woman who was staying in said room.
Police also learned that a warrant was out for Guzman Familia’s arrest.
After the alleged incident, police say Guzman Familia fled the scene.
“Tewksbury officers, with assistance from the Tewksbury Police Drone Unit, began searching the immediate area,” Chief Columbus said.
An officer soon spotted Guzman Familia in the area of Main Street and Interstate 495, but he fled into a wooded area near the highway. The Tewksbury Police Drone Unit later located him in the woods and observed him attempting to run across the lanes of the interstate.
“It appeared Guzman Familia was clipped by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the Interstate, and he went down in the highway’s median,” Chief Columbus said, adding that officers responded to his location and administered first aid.
“Guzman Familia was initially unconscious, but regained consciousness after being given a dose of Narcan,” Chief Columbus said. “He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and released later in the day. Guzman Familia was then booked at the Tewksbury Police Department.”
Jean Guzman Familia, 33, of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Unarmed Robbery
- Resisting Arrest
- Disorderly Conduct
- Breaking and Entering Daytime
- Warrant
