TEWKSBURY — A Lawrence man was arrested and charged with fentanyl trafficking following an investigation into a fatal overdose at a motel in Tewksbury.
According to the Tewksbury Police Department, the department began investigating the fatal overdose on Sunday, Sept. 6, at a motel on Main Street.
As a result of the investigation, on Monday, Sept. 14, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Wilkin Castillo-Arias, 36, of Lawrence, was taken into custody with assistance from the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and the police departments in Burlington, Billerica and Andover.
Castillo-Arias was charged with trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug.
He was arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also placed a detainer on him, the Tewksbury Police Department reported.
“I am extremely proud of the work that led to this arrest,” Chief Ryan Columbus said. “Those who sell drugs must be held accountable. When an overdose claims a life, we will pursue every investigative lead, leave no stone unturned, and continue fighting for victims and their families.”
