WINCHENDON — On Thursday, November 20, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Winchendon Police Officers Dylan Mei and James Maynard responded to the residence located at 5 School Street, following a report of a stabbing.
According to a statement from Lieutenant Kevin Wolski, when the officers arrived on scene, they discovered a woman who had been stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife.
“The alleged perpetrator was sitting inside a locked vehicle in the driveway,” Lt. Wolski said.
As the officers approached the suspect, who was later identified as Jack Newbrough, 25, of Athol, he began stabbing himself in the neck.
The officers broke a window of the vehicle in order to gain access to Newbrough, who was eventually subdued with a taser.
The female victim, who is related to Newbrough, was transported to UMass hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Lieutenant Wolski said Newbrough, who had superficial self-inflicted injuries, was arrested at the scene.

- Assault & battery causing serious bodily injury
- Assault to murder
