BOSTON — A coalition of Boston labor unions and community organizations will gather this morning at Boston City Hall to urge lawmakers to approve residential tax relief amid projections that some homeowners could face property-tax increases of up to 13%.
According to a statement from the Greater Boston Labor Council, the press conference is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. on the fifth floor of Boston City Hall, ahead of a city council hearing on the issue. Organizers say the goal is to support a “fairer tax structure” that would shift more of the burden onto large commercial payers — a reform backed by Mayor Michelle Wu.
“Boston families are bracing for property-tax hikes with some facing increases as high as 13%,” organizers said in the advisory. Union leaders and advocates plan to urge state legislators to approve the residential tax-relief mechanism needed “to prevent thousands of families from being hit with unaffordable bills.”
According to the advisory, representatives from the Greater Boston Building Trades Unions, UNITE HERE Local 26, the Greater Boston Labor Council, the Boston Teachers Union, AFSCME Council 93, the Massachusetts Senior Action Council, and additional community partners and homeowners are expected to participate.
