Basement fire displaces three on Summer Street in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG — On Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, at approximately 5:08 p.m., Fitchburg firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from the three-family residence located at 347 Summer Street, where crews located and extinguished a fire in the basement before it could spread.

According to a statement from the Fitchburg Fire Department, first-arriving companies confirmed smoke inside the building, stretched an attack line hose, secured a water supply, and gained access to the basement.

In an email, Fitchburg’s Fire Chief Dante Suarez said the fire, which was caused by electrical wiring, was contained to the area of origin within the wall.

“Interior wall was opened to locate, extinguish, and over haul the fire,” Chief Suarez said.

No injuries were reported.

Three residents were displaced as a result of the fire and were assisted by the American Red Cross.

“We thank our neighboring communities for covering our city during the incident,” the Fitchburg Police Department said in its statement.

Fire crews cleared the scene at approximately 7:19 p.m.
