Brockton man arrested after fatal stabbing on Chester Street in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG — A Brockton man was arrested today in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred early this morning in Fitchburg.

According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., at approximately 5:27 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, Fitchburg police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a knife on Chester Street. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The suspect, Charles Ednerson, 27, of Brockton, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder.

Ednerson was arrested in Brockton without incident by members of the Fitchburg Police Department, Brockton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester and Plymouth County District Attorney’s Offices, and the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS).

Ednerson is expected to be arraigned in Fitchburg District Court tomorrow.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fitchburg Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
