CLINTON — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Clinton this afternoon.
According to a spokesperson for CSX, the incident occurred shortly after 12:45 p.m. on the tracks near Sterling Road, where a CSX train struck a person who was on the tracks. No injuries were reported among the train’s crew, the company said.

The Clinton Police Department and local emergency medical services responded to the scene. Authorities did not immediately release information about why the person was on the tracks.
“CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation,” CSX’s spokesperson wrote in a statement shared with several media outlets via email.
