Connecticut man arrested after stolen plate report leads to pursuit from Hadley to West Springfield

HADLEY — A Connecticut man was arrested Friday afternoon after police said he fled from officers attempting to stop a Honda CR-V with stolen license plates, leading to a pursuit that ended in West Springfield.

According to a statement from the Hadley Police Department, on Jan. 16, 2026, dispatch was notified shortly after 4 p.m. that a black Honda CR-V with stolen license plates was traveling on Russell Street near the intersection of Bay Road.

Officers located the vehicle near the intersection of East Street and confirmed the plates had been stolen from a brown Honda Civic in Westford.

The Hadley Police Department said that once all patrol officers were behind the vehicle, they activated their blue lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and fled, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle fled south on South Maple Street, west on Bay Road, back to Route 9 into Northampton, and then onto Interstate 91 South.

In West Springfield, a Massachusetts State Police trooper deployed stop sticks, deflating the vehicle’s tires and bringing the pursuit to an end, police said.

Zachary Colvin, 30, of Vernon, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and multiple motor vehicle infractions, according to police.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
