Unlicensed handgun found in glovebox during Stoneham traffic stop; New Hampshire woman charged

STONEHAM — On Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Stoneham police officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Washington Street, and following a subsequent investigation, located an unloaded handgun and magazine in the glove box of the vehicle.

According to a statement from Stoneham Police Chief James O’Connor, the passenger of the vehicle, identified as a 42-year-old woman from Freedom, New Hampshire, was criminally charged and is being summonsed to court for a charge of possession of a firearm without a license.

The investigation remains ongoing, Chief O’Connor said.
