Leominster man with warrants, suspended license arrested after traffic stop for no plates; judge later clears all charges

LEOMINSTER โ€” On Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, at about 8:09 p.m., Leominster Police Officer Kyle Klimowicz was conducting traffic enforcement near North Main Street and State Street when he observed a grey Infiniti sedan traveling on North Main Street without a rear license plate and signaling for a left turn onto State Street.

โ€œI activated my emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and radioed to dispatch the description of the vehicle and that it was continuing onto State Street without regard for the emergency blue lights,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œIt appeared that the operator was being evasive as it continued down State Street before turning into the parking lot approximately halfway through the apartment complex. I requested a backup officer respond, to which Officer [Robert] Connors advised he was in route. The vehicle came to a stop and the driver reached his hands out the driverโ€™s side window of the vehicle, unprompted to do so. Note that the vehicle had heavy tint on all windows, preventing me from being able to see inside the vehicle even with the cruiser lights directed at the vehicle. I was unable to see the operator or any potential passengers in the vehicle prior to approaching the vehicle.โ€

Officer Klimowicz said he approached the passenger side of the vehicle and made contact with the operator and sole occupant, later identified as Angel Daniel Alejandro Rentas.

According to police, Angel Daniel Alejandro Rentas, 22, is a resident of Leominster, MA.

โ€œI identified myself and asked the operator what the deal was with his rear license plate,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œHe began to explain that he thought I ran the license plate and pulled him over because it did not come back to him. I advised him that the rear license plate was non-existent, to which he showed apparent surprise and explained it must have fallen off because he had it holding on by one screw.โ€

When asked where he was coming from and where he was going, Rentas said he was heading from his relativesโ€™ house in Fitchburg to his home in Leominster, Officer Klimowicz said.

โ€œWhen asked how he ended up on State Street, he stated it was just the way he usually drives, and affirmed it was to bypass traffic on North Main Street,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œNote that State Street is not a thru-way, with a gate locked at the end of the complex to prevent thru-traffic. He later stated he was picking up something from a friend in building #18 or #19. Angel appeared fidgety and continued to speak rapidly about his relationship and daughter.โ€

Officer Klimowicz said Rentas then began to explain that the vehicle was registered to him at one point but that it was not currently insured.

โ€œOfficer Connors arrived, and I requested that he check the front license plate,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œAngel informed us that there was not a front license plate attached either. When asked if he had reported the license plates stolen or missing, he stated he did not. Angel provided his license when asked, and confirmed his information. He provided a copy of the vehicleโ€™s registration, which matched with the VIN on the inspection sticker.โ€

Officer Klimowicz said the registration for the vehicle belongs to a 2010 grey Infinity G37 sedan, registered to Rentas, who was identified as the owner.

โ€œI radioed the operator and vehicle information to dispatch who advised that Angel Daniel Alejandro Rentas has a suspended Massachusetts license status, and that the aforementioned vehicle has a registration status as being revoked/insurance,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said.

Officer Klimowicz said dispatch informed him that Rentas had two outstanding warrants, including one out of Fitchburg District Court for assault and battery on a family or household member and another out of Leominster District Court for uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle charges.

โ€œI advised Angel of the vehicleโ€™s registration status, to which he advised me that he knew his insurance was canceled due to non-payment,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œHe explained that he has recently gotten a new job to pay his insurance up to date. Angel also affirmed that he knew of his suspended license status and explained he had gotten a traffic ticket in Oxford by MSP [Massachusetts State Police] for extensive window tint, that he had not paid. I advised Angel on how to get his vehicle properly registered, noting that to get a valid inspection sticker he would also have to remove his window tint from the front windshield at the very least.โ€

Officer Klimowicz then asked Rentas to exit the vehicle and advised him that the vehicle would be towed.

โ€œOutside the vehicle, Angel was advised he was under arrest for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and his two warrants,โ€ Officer Klimowicz said. โ€œI explained to Angel what the warrants were for, to which he advised he was aware of them. Angel was handcuffed using two sets of cuffs due to this large frame, and they were checked for tightness/double locked to prevent tightening. Angel was cooperative in being taken into custody.โ€

Officer Connors transported Rentas to the Leominster Police Department for booking.

Officer Klimowicz remained on scene and waited for Quality Towing to take possession of the vehicle.

Angel Daniel Alejandro Rentas, 22, of Leominster, was arrested and charged with the following violations/offenses:

  • Operating Motor Vehicle with License Suspended
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Number Plate Missing
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Window Obstructed/Nontransparent

Rentas was arraigned in Leominster District Court on Dec. 22, 2025. At the request of the Commonwealth, Judge Jaclyn Greenhalgh dismissed the charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Judge Greenhalgh also found Rentas not responsible for the charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle, a missing number plate, and window obstruction/nontransparent material.

Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the arrest in this story took place in December, thatโ€™s because I had to file FOIA request(s) to obtain the court documents. FOIAs are time-consuming.
