Four charged in December shooting that struck Haverhill home

HAVERHILL — Four men have been charged in connection with a Dec. 27, 2025 shooting in Haverhill in which gunfire struck a residence.

According to a statement from the Haverhill Police Department, three of the men were taken into custody today during a coordinated operation involving the Massachusetts State Police STOP Team and VFAS Unit. A fourth man was already in custody on unrelated charges.

According to police, the charges stem from an ongoing investigation into the shooting, during which bullets struck a home in Haverhill and caused property damage. No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

The individual who were charged are as follows:

Edward Alvarado, 34, of Haverhill, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon; intentional or reckless discharge of a firearm striking a dwelling; carrying a firearm without a license; possession of a loaded firearm; unlicensed possession of ammunition; and two counts of malicious destruction of property under $1,200.

Luis Hernandez, 37, of Haverhill, was charged with conspiracy and accessory after the fact.

Estuardo Pernilla, 29, of Methuen, was charged with conspiracy in connection with the incident, Haverhill police said.

Celestino Escalera, 31, of Peabody, who officials said was already in custody, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon; intentional or reckless discharge of a firearm striking a dwelling; carrying a firearm without a license; possession of a loaded firearm; unlicensed possession of ammunition; and two counts of malicious destruction of property over $1,200.

The Haverhill Police Department said the investigation remains active and additional charges may be forthcoming.
