CBS Boston identified the driver as Robert McCluskey, 58, of Shrewsbury, and reported investigators believe the crash was intentional. Police also spoke with witnesses who told investigators McCluskey made statements earlier in the day including, “I want suicide by cop,” and “Watch the news, it’s going to be spectacular,” and that he allegedly said just before the crash, “I am going to end this,” according to court documents cited by CBS Boston.

CBS also reported that after McCluskey was pulled from the wreckage, he was asked by an officer whether he intended to crash into the building and replied, “Yes, I am sorry, I am sorry.” The officer also detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on McCluskey’s breath.

McCluskey was taken to the hospital with injuries and later arrested. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Westborough District Court today on the following charges:

  • Assault with a dangerous weapon (three counts)
  • Malicious destruction of property over $1,200
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
