SOMERVILLE โ€” On Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at approximately 4:58 p.m., Officer Keighla McAloney of the Somerville Police Department was dispatched to Connexion United Methodist Church at 149 Broadway following a report of a sick man wanting to go to the hospital.

When she arrived on scene, Officer McAloney said the Somerville Fire Department and Cataldo Ambulance were already there, attempting to provide medical assistance to a man, later identified as Javier Corea, 37, of Boylston Street, Boston, MA.

โ€œI observed Corea exhibiting signs of intoxication, with his head hanging down and unresponsive to verbal questioning, he required sternum rubs to regain responsiveness,โ€ Officer McAloney said, adding that multiple witnesses reported that Corea had consumed beer and smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

โ€œCataldo Ambulance notified me that Corea was not responding to their questions therefore, he needed to go to the hospital,โ€ Officer McAloney said. Officer McAloney said that when she advised Corea that he needed to go to the hospital, he threw his body up and clenched a fist, but stated, โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€

โ€œCorea maintained an angry and loud demeanor the entire incident,โ€ Officer McAloney said.

With assistance from Cataldo Ambulance personnel, Corea was placed on the stretcher and put into the back of the ambulance.

โ€œCorea began to kick and scream while the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) attempted to take his vitals and blood pressure,โ€ Officer McAloney said.

Officer McAloney said that at one point Corea ripped off the blood pressure monitor, breaking the cuff, and threw it at her chest. She said she then handcuffed Corea to the stretcher and advised him that he was under arrest.

Officer McAloney rode with Corea in the back of the ambulance to Cambridge Hospital.

โ€œOnce at the hospital, it was determined that Corea did not want to be there,โ€ Officer McAloney said. โ€œDr. [name redacted] stated that โ€˜if he could take a few steps, then he was fine to leave.โ€™”

After he was released from the hospital, Corea was transported back to the Somerville Police Headquarters for booking.

Javier Corea, 37, of Boston, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Defacement of real or personal property
  • Assault & Battery on Police Officer

Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the arrest in this story took place in December, thatโ€™s because I had to file FOIA request(s) to obtain the court documents. FOIAs are time-consuming.
