A high-level Iranian delegation arrived in Pakistan Friday for talks with U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and advisor.

The talks come just days after Trump announced a two-week temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran. According to Reuters, on around April 8, 2026, Trump announced on social media that he had agreed to “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks” if Tehran agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

However, the ceasefire has been tenuous at best, with Trump saying on Truth Social yesterday that there have been reports that Iran was charging fees to tankers going through the Strait of Hormuz and whether the truce is supposed to include continued Israeli strikes against the Iran-backed group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Early Friday, Iran said it would not enter negotiations with the United States without a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of its blocked assets.
