“I then entered the vehicle’s registration into CJIS, [the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services database] and received a response that the registered owner, Erik Cardoso’s MA [Massachusetts] license status was suspended,” Officer Breault said. “Moments later, I initiated a traffic stop on Wallum Lake Road.”

Officer Breault approached the vehicle, told Cardoso the reason for the stop and requested to see Cardoso’s license and the vehicle’s registration.

“The operator handed me a MA license and was identified as Erik Cardoso,” Officer Breault said.

According to police, Erik Cardoso, 29, is a resident of Cumberland, Rhode Island.

“Douglas Police Dispatch was relayed this information and confirmed at the time of the stop that Cardoso’s license was suspended,” Officer Breault said. “Cardoso was subsequently placed in handcuffs (DL) [double locked] and taken into police custody for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.”

Cardoso was then transported to the Douglas Police Department for booking.

Erik Cardoso, 29, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, was charged with the following:

  • Operating motor vehicle with license suspended

After he was booked, Cardoso was released on personal recognizance.

Cardoso’s arraignment was scheduled for the morning of January 13, 2026, in Uxbridge District Court.
