TAUNTON — On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Taunton police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired and multiple people shot in the area of Weir and Sumner streets.
According to the Taunton Police Department, responding officers determined that the shooting occurred during an apparent house party at a home on Weir Street near the intersection with Sumner Street.
Upon arrival, the responding officers also located multiple gunshot victims at the scene. Multiple victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment, while other victims may have left and sought medical treatment on their own, the Taunton Police Department reported.
The exact number of victims and the extent of their injuries remain under investigation. The Taunton Police Department said there were no known fatalities at the present time.
Taunton police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section also responded to assist.
The Taunton Police Department said the investigation remains active, adding that it will release more information as it becomes available.
