Boston woman accused of picking lock, breaking into Canton apartment after two earlier break-ins

CANTON — On Friday, April 25, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Canton police responded to a residence on Washington Street after receiving a report that a woman had broken into an apartment.

According to Canton Police Chief Michael K. Daniels, when officers arrived on scene, they located the woman inside the apartment and identified her as Jailah Latrea Bates-Harrison, 31, of Roxbury Crossing.

A preliminary investigation found that Bates-Harrison picked the lock and entered the apartment, even though she didn’t have permission to stay there. Chief Daniels said she also allegedly “threatened violence” against the resident on a previous day.

During the on-scene investigation, police determined that Bates-Harrison matched the description of a suspect wanted in connection with two break-ins reported early Thursday morning, one at the office building of a town-owned cemetery at 1600 Washington Street and the other at a restaurant at 515 Washington Street.

Chief Daniels said items recovered from the scene of the residential break-in were consistent with items Bates-Harrison was seen with on surveillance video during the earlier break-ins.

Jailah Latrea Bates-Harrison, 31, of Roxbury Crossing was arrested and charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering During the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony (two counts)
  • Possession of a Burglarious Instrument
  • Breaking and Entering for a Misdemeanor
  • Threatening to Commit a Crime
  • Trespassing

Bates-Harrison arraignment was scheduled for Monday in Brockton District Court.

The investigation remains ongoing.
