FITCHBURG — On Monday, April 27, 2026, at approximately 6:38 p.m., Fitchburg police were dispatched to Clinton Street after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.
According to the Fitchburg Police Department, when officers arrived on scene, they located an individual who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg and provided first aid until ambulance personnel arrived.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of an injury that is not considered life-threatening.
Police said there is no indication that the incident is connected to Fitchburg State University. The area has since been secured, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Fitchburg Police Department’s Patrol Division and detectives from the department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
No arrests have been made at this time.
