Haverhill teen arrested for arson in connection with massive mill fire

HAVERHILL — On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Haverhill police and fire departments responded to the mill located at 14 Stevens Street following reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from the property.

According to the Haverhill Police Department, when first responders arrived on scene, they observed intense fire conditions that required a coordinated, multi-alarm response. It took crews hours to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

No civilian injuries were reported.

Haverhill police said that as a result of the investigation, which is ongoing, Isabella Sargent, 18, of Haverhill, was arrested and charged with arson of a structure and conspiracy to commit arson.

Sargent’s arraignment was scheduled for today in Haverhill District Court.

The fire is still under active investigation by the Haverhill police and fire departments. Haverhill police said investigators are working to determine the full circumstances of the fire, including whether additional individuals were involved.
