Tewksbury man arrested after armed standoff at March Road residence

TEWKSBURY — On Monday, May 4, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Tewksbury police responded to a residence on March Road following a report of a man armed with a firearm who was in distress and had threatened others.

According to the Tewksbury Police Department, responding officers set up a perimeter around the home to protect the public and attempted to speak with the man. Police also requested assistance from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team.

Police kept their distance and continued attempting to speak with the man in an effort to de-escalate the situation, and also used a less-than-lethal round in an attempt to disarm him. Shortly thereafter, officers got the man to drop the knife and took him into custody without any reported injuries.

The man was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. Police said he will face charges in connection with the incident once he is released from the hospital.

“The officers who responded to this incident showed incredible restraint, professionalism and skill as they de-escalated this dangerous situation and ensured that no one got hurt,” Chief Ryan Columbus said.

Police said additional information will be released when appropriate.
