Fitchburg police offer monitored exchange location for online purchases

FITCHBURG — The Fitchburg Police Department offers a video-monitored internet purchase exchange location on Oliver Street next to the police station for residents completing online purchases or sales.

Mayor Sam Squailia said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, that the designated parking space, marked by an “Internet Purchase Exchange Location” sign, is intended to provide residents with a safer place to complete online transactions instead of meeting at private homes or less visible locations.

“The area is monitored by 24/7 high-definition video surveillance to help reduce the risk of fraud, theft or other criminal activity,” Squailia said.

Residents buying or selling items online are encouraged to protect their personal information, meet in a public location, inspect items before handing over money and trust their instincts if something feels off.
