Skull found near Route 3 in Plymouth identified as missing Hanson woman

PLYMOUTH — A skull found last year in a wooded area near Route 3 in Plymouth has been identified as Sandra Crispo, a Hanson woman who had been missing since August 2019, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Hanson Police Chief Michael Casey announced today.

On March 6, 2025, a hunter discovered what appeared to be human remains along a deer trail near the breakdown lane between exits 13 and 14 on Route 3 North in Plymouth. Massachusetts State Police responded to the area and located part of a human skull, which was taken to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office later requested that the FBI conduct additional testing on the skull. The FBI determined the skull was a CODIS match to the DNA of Sandra Crispo in one of the FBI’s forensic DNA databases, according to District Attorney Cruz and Chief Casey.

Crispo was last seen on Aug. 7, 2019. She was 54 years old when she disappeared and lived on Spofford Avenue in Hanson. She was reported missing to Hanson police on Aug. 9, 2019, after family members could not reach her and found she was not inside her home.

District Attorney Cruz and Chief Casey said that since she went missing, Hanson police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement partners have conducted an “extensive and exhaustive investigation” into Crispo’s disappearance through searches, interviews, forensic testing, records reviews and other investigative methodologies.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Anyone with information about Crispo’s disappearance is asked to contact Hanson police at (781) 293-4625 or Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office at (508) 894-2600.
