GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Water Department issued a ban on non-essential water use today after a mechanical failure at the town’s water treatment facility left the system operating at 50 percent capacity.
According to Georgetown Water Department Utility Director Tom Lannan, crews responded to the water treatment facility at 75 West Street at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Georgetown Water Department staff and contractors are working to resolve the issue.
Lannan said that while repairs are underway, residents across Georgetown may experience discolored water or low water pressure until the problem is fully resolved.

The water department is asking residents to limit all non-essential water use, including lawn irrigation by sprinklers or automatic systems, washing buildings, driveways, cars and sidewalks (unless the cleaning is necessary for safety or maintenance).
The department anticipates the ban will remain in place for multiple days. Updates will be posted at georgetownwater.org as repairs continue.
The Georgetown Water Department thanked residents for their patience and understanding while crews work to address the issue.
