GEORGETOWN — A woman who was seriously injured in a four-alarm fire on East Main Street Saturday night has died.
At about 10:49 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, Georgetown firefighters responded to 238 East Main Street following a report of a large fire at the residence, Georgetown’s Fire Chief Matt McKay reported in a statement.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames shooting approximately 20 feet into the air from the roof of the 2.5-story wood-frame, single-family home.
Three residents managed to evacuate safely, but one woman was trapped inside when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters entered the home and located the woman on the second floor. She was removed through a second-floor window and brought down a ladder. The woman sustained serious injuries in the blaze, according to fire officials.

Mutual aid from neighboring fire departments was called in around 11 p.m. after a second alarm was struck. The fire continued to spread rapidly, so third and fourth alarms were struck for additional resources, Chief McKay said.
The fire was brought under control at 12:46 a.m. Sunday, and crews were still overhauling the scene as of 1:20 a.m.
East Main Street (Route 133) was closed in both directions for several hours while firefighters were on scene.
The home was determined to be a total loss and the residents have been displaced.
The injured woman was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with serious injuries. She was later pronounced deceased. Her name has not yet been released by authorities.
Firefighters from the Rowley, West Newbury, Newbury, Boxford, Newburyport, Topsfield, North Andover, Lawrence, Middleton, Haverhill, Groveland, Amesbury, and Ipswich fire departments responded to the scene and provided station coverage. Additionally, Rehab 5, Cataldo Ambulance Service, and Pridestar Trinity EMS were on site to assist.
The Georgetown Fire Department, with assistance from the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating the cause of the fire.
