Ashland woman arraigned on motor vehicle homicide charge in fatal Southborough crash

SOUTHBOROUGH — An Ashland woman was arraigned today in Westborough District Court in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash on Route 9 in Southborough that took place earlier this year.

According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Abigail Throckmorton, 23, was arraigned on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving the wrong way on a state highway, marked lanes violation, and speeding,

The charges stem from a crash that occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026. At approximately 3:00 a.m. that day, the Southborough Police Department received calls reporting a serious motor vehicle crash on Turnpike Road (Route 9 East).

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office reported that when first responders arrived on scene they located the aftermath of a two-vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the vehicle driven by Throckmorton had been traveling the wrong way before the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle, Crystal Johnson Clementi, 37, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Following her arraignment, Throckmorton was released on personal recognizance under the condition that she not operate a motor vehicle, remain drug and alcohol free with random screenings, and stay in Massachusetts.

Throckmorton’s next court date is a pretrial conference hearing scheduled for June 30, 2026.

The crash was investigated by the Southborough Police Department, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
