Two arrested after Worcester traffic stop leads police to firearm without serial number

WORCESTER — On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at approximately 12:46 a.m., Worcester police officers observed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate on Madison Street.

According to the Worcester Police Department, officers stopped the vehicle, and the driver began yelling about why he had been pulled over. The driver and passengers were frisked for weapons, but no weapons were found on them.

Officers then observed a large black fanny pack in the backseat with a firearm inside of it.

One of the passengers, identified as Robert Perkins, 22, of New Bedford, took ownership of the firearm, which did not have a serial number, the Worcester Police Department reported.

Perkins was arrested and charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a FID card, and improper storage of a large capacity firearm.

The driver was also arrested on a warrant and charged with driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
