WINTHROP — A 47-year-old woman died after she was shot inside a Winthrop apartment building Sunday morning, and her husband has been charged with manslaughter in connection with her death.
Winthrop police responded to 26 Beacon Street at approximately 8:37 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following reports that a verbal argument was taking place and that a firearm may have been involved, according to Winthrop Police Chief John Goodwin. When police arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman, later identified as Jacklyn Berry, 47, was transported to a Boston hospital, where she later died.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Berry’s husband, 58-year-old Sean Brewer, has been charged with manslaughter in Berry’s death and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in East Boston Municipal Court.
WCVB reported that Berry’s landlord, Blue Sky Realty, said Berry leased the apartment herself and that Brewer was not an approved tenant, was not on the lease, and had not been submitted for approval as an additional tenant.
Chief Goodwin previously said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and that investigators did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
Berry’s family is raising money on SpotFund to help cover her medical and funeral costs.
