TAUNTON — On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 1:41 a.m., Taunton firefighters were dispatched to a single-family residence located at 50 Liberty Street after dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fire.
According to the Taunton Fire Department, Car 2, Ladder 3, and Engines 9, 3, and 1 were initially dispatched to the scene. While firefighters were en route, the department received multiple calls reporting that a resident was possibly trapped in the basement. In response, the Taunton Fire Department dispatched a fourth engine, Engine 4.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire and smoke conditions at the home, which fire officials described as a single-story ranch with an attached garage.
All occupants were outside the home when crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters then launched an interior attack, located the fire, and extinguished it.
“Our crews opened up the roof and put a ton of water into it,” Taunton Fire Chief Steven P. Lavigne said. “But after we put it out, the house was a total loss.”
Three residents were displaced by the fire. The Taunton Emergency Management Agency worked with the residents to find temporary housing.
No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
The fire remains under investigation by the Taunton Fire Department and Taunton Police Department.
