OXFORD — On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 4:01 p.m., Officer Daniel Cavic of the Oxford Police Department was dispatched to the Walmart at 742 Main Street following a report of a shoplifting incident.

Officer Cavic said the reporting party, a Walmart asset protection associate, stated that the woman was detained in the asset protection office and was cooperative.
“Corporal [Zachary] Losee, Officer [Anthony] Palmer, and I arrived on scene and entered the Asset Protection Office,” Officer Cavic said. “The female party, identified as Barbara Kearns, was seated while Asset Protection sorted through the grocery items to identify what items were not paid for via the receipt.”
According to police, Barbara A. Kearns, 48, is a resident of Charlton, MA.
“[The reporting party] told me that Barbara went through the self-checkout lane, scanned some items, and bagged unscanned items with them,” Officer Cavic said.
According to Officer Cavic, the reporting party stated that after Barbara paid for the scanned items, she passed the last point of sale with both the paid scanned and unpaid unscanned items before she was detained by asset protection.
“[The reporting party] informed me that Barbara had two other shoplifting cases with Walmart, through the Sturbridge location, and had been detained one other time by Walmart,” Officer Cavic said. “Asset protection completed the inventory and found that Barbara had stolen 34 items totaling $147.68. Asset protection served Barbara a trespass notice from Walmart in hand.”
Barbara A. Kearns, 48, of Charlton, was charged with:
- Shoplifting by Asportation
Kearns’ arraignment is scheduled for July 22, 2026, in Dudley District Court.
