Leicester woman who crashed into telephone pole in Oxford causing power outage charged with OUI

OXFORD — On Jan. 7, 2025, at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers from the Oxford Police Department were dispatched to 129 Leicester Street following a report of a motor vehicle accident.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a Chevy pickup truck involved in a single-vehicle accident,” the Oxford Police Department said in a statement. “The operator, identified as 38-year-old Amanda Mario of Leicester, Massachusetts, was traveling southbound on Leicester Street when she attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, a northbound vehicle approached, nearly causing a head-on collision. Mario lost control of the vehicle, which struck a utility pole.”

The Oxford Police Department reported that the crash led to a power outage in parts of the town. The department also noted that crews were quickly dispatched to restore electricity.

Following an on-scene investigation, Mario was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Liquor
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Marked Lanes Violation

Mario was arraigned in Dudley District Court on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025. Following her arraignment, she was released on personal recognizance.
