Oxford man arrested for chest-bumping wife, smashing her eyeglasses

OXFORD โ€” On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Corporal Alexander Shadis spoke with a woman in the front lobby of the Oxford Police Department regarding a domestic incident with her husband the father of her two children, Daniel Socia.

(The account and quotations in this article were sourced from the printed Personnel Narrative of Corporal Alexander Shadis and do not reflect any political perspective or personal opinion of News Link Live, which is strictly a business entity.)

โ€œ[The reporting party] told me that their relationship had been tumultuous and had problems, and she was looking to start filing for divorce,โ€ Corporal Shadis said. โ€œThe two have been physical with each other in the past, and she said that he has thrown her phone in the woods before, hidden her purse, and would be vulgar towards her.โ€

The reporting party told Corporal Shadis that about 15 minutes prior to her arrival at the police department, Socia had returned home after being out with some friends.

According to police, Daniel S. Socia, 40, is a resident of Oxford, MA.

โ€œWhen he arrived back home, [the reporting party] was with their 4-year-old son sleeping on the couch,โ€ Corporal Shadis said. โ€œShe went outside to speak with Daniel away from their children. [The reporting party] said she leaned up on the vehicle, and Daniel shoved her with his chest against her, in a manner she described as being angry.โ€

The reporting party said she separated herself from Socia and walked inside, while Socia followed her, shouting insults and swearing at her.

โ€œ[The reporting party] said at one point Daniel took her eyeglasses off her face and smashed them on the ground by throwing them on the floor,โ€ Corporal Shadis said. โ€œShe told me that the children may have witnessed parts of the exchange but unsure of exactly what was seen and when.โ€

Corporal Shadis said he then responded to the residence with Sergeant Kenneth Mead and Officer Jeffrey White to figure out what had transpired between the two.

โ€œI introduced myself to Daniel who was outside smoking a cigarette. He described the argument as being heated, and [the reporting partyโ€™s] glasses fell off her face,โ€ Corporal Shadis said. โ€œDaniel did admit to ‘slammingโ€™ the glasses on the ground. Daniel told me that [the reporting party] allegedly put her hands on him the other day, but nothing was reported. Based on the information I gathered, I determined Daniel to be the primary aggressor this evening.โ€

Corporal Shadis then informed Socia that he was under arrest for the incident and placed him in handcuffs.

โ€œI transported Daniel to the Oxford Police Department for booking without incident,โ€ Corporal Shadis. โ€œI offered [the reporting party] her domestic rights, and asked if she required medical attention, to which she declined. After explaining her rights, [the reporting party] elected to activate the emergency judicial response and apply for an abuse prevention order. The order was granted at 12:44 a.m. by the Hon. Mark Gildea.โ€

Corporal Shadis said he served Socia with a copy of the abuse prevention order shortly after the booking process.

Corporal Shadis said Sergeant Mead and Officer White retrieved two properly secured firearmsโ€”a Marlin .22-caliber rifle and a Glock 22 .40-caliber handgunโ€”and seized Sociaโ€™s Massachusetts license to carry.

โ€œWhile in the residence, officers were unable to locate the broken eyeglasses to photograph for this report,โ€ Corporal Shadis said. โ€œAn oral report was made to the Department of Children and Families due to the presence of children during the incident, and a written report was faxed to the local office.โ€

Corporal Shadis said Bail Commissioner Greg Benoit set Sociaโ€™s bail at personal recognizance, effective after the required six-hour cooling-off period. Socia was placed in a holding cell in the interim.

Daniel S. Socia, 40, of Oxford, was charged with the following:

  • Assault & Battery on Family/Household Member
  • Vandalize Property (eyeglasses)

Socia was arraigned in Dudley District Court on June 15, 2026. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he abide by the abuse prevention order. Sociaโ€™s next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for July 23, 2026.
