
BOURNE — On Sunday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Bourne Police Dispatch received reports that a black bear had entered Bourne Scenic Park.
Bourne police and the Bourne Department of Natural Resources (DNR) responded and monitored the bear’s movements. According to the Bourne Police Department, officers observed the bear return to the woods without incident.
Bourne police and the Bourne Department of Natural Resources had been monitoring reports of a black bear in the Buzzards Bay area of Bourne for several days before the bear was reported at Bourne Scenic Park on July 12.
Since the bear was near a heavily populated area, the Massachusetts Environmental Police also responded to the scene, the Bourne Police Department said.
Later in the day on Sunday, July 12, Massachusetts Environmental Police determined that the bear should be sedated and relocated to a safer location. Bourne police assisted with the operation, and the bear was removed without incident.
