NORWOOD — On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, shortly before 7:00 a.m., Norwood police were notified of a motor vehicle crash on Tremont Street.
According to the Norwood Police Department, when officers arrived on scene, they spoke with federal law enforcement officers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) who had been in the area attempting to locate and arrest a wanted man.
The DHS officers reported that they saw their target, identified as Cleiton Toledo de Souza, getting into a vehicle in front of 6 Tremont Street. When DHS officers attempted to take de Souza into custody, he allegedly attempted to flee in the vehicle and struck two parked vehicles.
De Souza then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended by DHS officers following a brief foot pursuit.
DHS officers told Norwood police that de Souza was wanted in Brazil in connection with a murder.
Norwood police remained at the scene to investigate and document the motor vehicle crash.
The Norwood Police Department reported that the DHS officers subsequently left the scene with de Souza in federal custody.
