WEYMOUTH — On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at approximately 5:29 a.m., Weymouth firefighters responded to a large fire involving a pile of rubber blasting mats near high-tension power lines behind Washington Street.
According to Weymouth Firefighters Local 1616, firefighters from E3, E2, L1 and C2 worked for several hours to extinguish the flames.
The Weymouth Department of Public Works assisted by operating heavy machinery while firefighters used more than 30 gallons of foam to bring the fire under control.

Rubber blasting mats are heavy protective coverings used during construction and excavation projects to prevent rocks and debris from becoming airborne during controlled explosions.
Group 3 was on duty during the incident.
