Two arrested in Cape Cod cocaine investigation after driver nearly strikes officers, hides in Uber

FALMOUTH — On Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Falmouth Police Department executed a search and arrest warrant of a Dorchester man following a months-long joint investigation with the Cape Cod Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force into narcotics distribution on Cape Cod.

According to the Falmouth Police Department, the target of the investigation, Elias Almeida, 22, of Dorchester, was located at 1 Wampanoag Drive in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Police identified Almeida and took him into custody without incident.

Police located approximately 65 grams of a white, rock-like substance on Almeida’s person during his arrest, which later tested presumptively positive for cocaine.

Almeida was then transported to the Falmouth Police Department for booking.

The Falmouth Police Department reported that during Almeida’s arrest, the driver of the vehicle that had transported him to Mashpee fled the scene at a high rate of speed. While fleeing, the operator allegedly drove directly at the officers, nearly striking them.

The officers immediately began to search the area for the vehicle and the suspect with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Falmouth Police Department Drone Unit, and K-9 units.

The suspect vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away.

A short time later, a Falmouth police officer spotted an Uber traveling in the area under circumstances that drew the officer’s attention, the Falmouth Police Department reported. Police subsequently pulled the Uber over and located the suspect slouched down in the rear passenger seat.

The suspect, identified as Kendrell Gilbert, 20, of Brockton, was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle)
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Disturbing the Peace
  • Disorderly Conduct

Elias Almeida, 22, of Dorchester, was charged with the following:

  • Warrant Arrest (three counts)
  • Trafficking in Cocaine, More than 36 Grams but Less than 100 Grams

Following their arrests, Almeida was held on $10,000 bail and Gilbert was held on $5,000 bail, they were both then transported to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
