GROTON — A New Mexico woman was arrested Monday night after police responded to a restaurant in Groton following a report that an intoxicated woman was attempting to leave in her vehicle.
According to Groton Deputy Police Chief Rachael Mead, police were dispatched to Forge & Vine at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 28, 2026. An employee provided police with a description of the woman’s vehicle, a beige Mazda 3 with Maine plates.
Deputy Chief Mead said police located the vehicle in front of the Groton Inn and identified the sole occupant as Jessica Gorell of Cliff, New Mexico.

According to Deputy Chief Mead, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on Gorell’s breath and observed that her eyes were glassy and bloodshot and that she was slurring her words.
“Officers asked Ms. Gorell if she was okay,” Deputy Chief Mead said. “She told officers that she was ‘going here’ and pointed to the ground. When asked to explain what she meant, she stated that she was checking into a hotel after eating dinner at a restaurant in town.”
When officers asked Gorell where she was headed and at which restaurant she had dined, she was unable to provide an answer.
“Officers asked Ms. Gorell if she had consumed any alcohol that evening, and she stated that she had one drink with dinner,” Deputy Chief Mead said.
Following an investigation, police determined that Gorell had been operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Jessica Gorell of Cliff, New Mexico, was arrested and charged with:
- OUI-Liquor or .08%
According to Deputy Chief Mead, Gorell provided a breath sample at the police station that registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.141%.
Gorell was arraigned in Ayer District Court.
