Lowell man arrested for robbing woman in parking lot in Dracut

DRACUT — On Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Dracut police learned that Methuen police were searching the area of Merrimack Avenue for a man suspected of stealing a woman’s phone in Methuen.

According to Dracut Police Chief Peter Bartlett, officers learned while en route that another woman had been robbed in the parking lot of a business in the 1200 block of Merrimack Avenue in Dracut. Chief Bartlett said the man allegedly took cash from her while demanding to get into the car she was in.

Dispatch gave police a description of the suspect in the Dracut incident, and responding officers subsequently spotted an individual on an e-bike who matched it.

The individual, later identified as Sameer Abdu, 23, of Lowell, sped onto Huron Street and disappeared into a yard. Methuen police took Abdu into custody a short time later just over the town line.

Sameer Abdu, 23, of Lowell, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Unarmed Robbery
  • Failure to Stop for Police

“Abdu was arrested and charged based on information learned through an on-scene investigation,” Chief Bartlett said. He added that Methuen police are continuing to investigate the incident that took place in their community.

Abdu was booked at the Dracut Police Department and arraigned on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, in Lowell District Court. The court set Abdu’s bail at $7,500 cash and he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Abdu is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 16, 2026.
