FITCHBURG — A 22-year-old Fitchburg man was charged in the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old last month.
According to an April 4 press release from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Jose Ramos Solis was arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on a murder charge Monday.
Solis was originally arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on March 23 for an assault and battery with a deadly weapon charge, but that charge has since been dismissed and replaced with the most recent murder charge.
Officials say that just before midnight on March 18, Solis stabbed 18-year-old Gadiel Maria during an altercation near Spruce and Salem streets. After he was stabbed, Maria got into his car, drove to another location and from there was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, the release said.
An autopsy performed by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded the death was a homicide.
Following his Monday, April 4, arraignment, Solis was held without bail and is expected to return to court on May 17.
