SHREWSBURY — A mentor for the Shrewsbury High School Robotics Team was arrested Monday for allegedly possessing and transporting child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts announced.
Brian Lingard, 60, of Shrewsbury, was arrested Monday and charged with transportation of and possession of child pornography. He was arraigned in federal court in Worcester at 3:45 p.m.

On Oct. 19, 2023, when Lingard flew from Paris to Boston, child pornography was discovered on his cell phone during a customs screening. According to the complaint affidavit, on the SD card of Lingard’s phone were 23 images depicting child sexual abuse material, some of the minors in the images appear to be under the age of 10. The SD card also contained multiple photos focused on the buttocks of clothed minor females, allegedly taken at Shrewsbury High School.
A subsequent search of Lingard’s residence revealed another collection of child pornography.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the charge of transportation of child pornography provides for a sentence of not less than five years and up to 20 years in prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. The charge of possession of child pornography provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
