TYNGSBOROUGH — On Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at approximately 3:38 a.m., Tyngsborough Police were dispatched to a home on Sequoia Drive following a report of a suspicious man in a driveway.
Tyngsborough Police Chief Richard Howe reported that when officers arrived on scene, they found Stephen Staite, 44, of Leominster, outside the residence holding a five-gallon container of gasoline and wearing a backpack. Police later located a lighter inside Staite’s backpack.
Chief Howe said that police had investigated a similar incident at the same residence on Friday, Sept. 20. During that investigation, it was determined that someone had poured gasoline on a vehicle parked at the property and along the side of the house and unsuccessfully attempted to set a fire.
After an on-scene investigation Monday, Staite was arrested and charged with attempted arson of a dwelling.
