BEDFORD — The Bedford Police and Fire Departments responded to an unusual call this morning: a moose trapped in a swimming pool.

According to a statement from Bedford’s Police Chief Daniel Douidi, at around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, first responders were dispatched to a home on Riddle Drive after a resident reported that a moose had fallen into their backyard pool.

When police and fire crews arrived on scene, they found an adult moose trapped under the pool cover.

First responders removed the pool cover to assist the moose in exiting the pool. Once the cover was lifted, the moose walked out on its own and left the area.

No injuries were reported to either the residents or the moose, according to Chief Douidi.

“We want to remind residents that moose can be very dangerous animals due to their size, and we’re grateful that the residents called us to assist with this situation,” Chief Douidi said. “We’re happy to report that everyone, including the moose, is safe.”
