HAVERHILL — On November 4, 2024, at approximately 1:48 p.m., Haverhill police were dispatched to 7 Lockwood Street after receiving a report about a 48-year-old man threatening to harm himself and any responding officers.
Upon arrival, police attempted to check on the man’s well-being, but he barricaded himself inside the residence and threatened to harm himself and the police officers who arrived on scene.
During negotiations, the man threatened to start a fire and released natural gas and other accelerants in the building, the Haverhill Police Department said in a press release. The man then ignited a fire in the residence and escaped through the rear of the building.
Police were able to apprehend the man and transported him to a local hospital for treatment.
The Haverhill Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Haverhill Police and Fire Departments, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
