LEOMINSTER — A Leominster woman sustained serious injuries Thursday afternoon after she was attacked by her family’s 5-year-old pit bull, Chunk, according to local officials.
Police and firefighters responded to a home on Main Street around 2 p.m. following reports of a dog bite. The woman, who sustained serious injuries to her arms and hand, received medical treatment from fire fighters on scene before she was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, police determined that the attack occurred when Chunk latched onto one of the woman’s arms. Her husband was able to intervene and free her from the dog.
According to WHDH 7 News Boston, police had to use multiple catch poles to get Chunk into the animal control van that was used to transport the dog to a local veterinarian following the incident.
No further information about the woman’s condition has been released by officials yet.
