SHREWSBURY โ Kamala Harris received 59.30% of the vote in Shrewsbury during the November 5, 2024, presidential election, 1.9 percentage points lower than her statewide total of 61.2%. This difference is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level, as determined by a one-tailed, two-sample t-test. (All subsequent references to confidence levels pertain to this type of t-test.)
Senator Elizabeth Warren won 57.70% of the vote in Shrewsbury during the last election, 2.10 percentage points lower than her statewide share of 59.8%. Although the difference appears minor, it is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, Warren’s Republican opponent, John Deaton, garnered 42.18% of the vote in Shrewsbury compared to 40.00% statewide. The 2.18 percentage point increase in support for Deaton in Shrewsbury is also statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Congressman Jim McGovern (D – 2nd Congressional District) won 64.75% of the vote in Shrewsbury, 3.85 percentage points lower than his districtwide total of 68.6%. This difference is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, his unenrolled opponent, Cornelius Shea, secured 35.16% of the vote in Shrewsburyโ4.06 percentage points higher than his districtwide share of 31.1%. This difference is also statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Paul DePalo, the Democratic candidate for Governor’s Council (District 7), was the most popular Democratic candidate in Shrewsbury during the last election. He secured 66.91% of the townโs vote, 9.61 percentage points higher than his districtwide result of 57.3%. This difference is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, DePalo’s Republican opponent, Andrew Couture, received 33.03% of the vote in Shrewsbury, 9.47 percentage points lower than his districtwide share of 42.5%. This difference is also statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Michael Moore (D – 2nd Worcester), who ran unopposed, garnered greater support in Shrewsbury than across his district in the state senate race, winning 99.1% of the townโs vote compared to 98.3% districtwide. This 0.8 percentage point difference is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Incumbent Republican State Representative Hannah Kane (11th Worcester District), who ran unopposed in the November 5, 2024, election, secured 99.06% of the vote in Shrewsbury. This was 0.16 percentage points higher than her districtwide share of 98.9%. The 0.16% increase in support for Kane in Shrewsbury is statistically significant at the 80% confidence level.
Incumbent Clerk of Courts Dennis McManus (D – Worcester County), running unopposed, captured 99.21% of the vote in Shrewsbury. This figure was 1.31% higher than the 97.9% vote share he received throughout the district, a variance that is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Likewise, incumbent Democrat Kathryn Toomey who ran unopposed for Register of Deeds in the Worcester District, received 99.21% of the vote share in Shrewsbury, which was about 1.21% higher than the 98% she received throughout the district. That 1.21% increase in support for Toomey among Shrewsbury residents was statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
Support for ballot question one, which proposed granting State Auditor Diana DiZoglio the authority to audit the legislature, showed virtually identical levels of support in Shrewsbury compared to the statewide results. In Shrewsbury, 71.5% of voters supported the measure, compared to 71.6% support across the state. The slight 0.10% drop in support among Shrewsbury voters was not statistically significant.
Support for question two which would eliminate the MCAS as a high school graduation requirement was about 5.23% lower in Shrewsbury than the state as a whole. In Shrewsbury, 53.87% of voters supported eliminating the MCAS, while throughout the Commonwealth, 59.10% supported the measure, and that 5.23% variance is statistically significant at the 95 confidence level.
About half, or 49.81% of voters in Shrewsbury voted “yes” on question three, which would permit the unionization of transportation network drivers. Support for the measure in Shrewsbury lagged behind the state’s 54.10% approval by 4.29%, a reduction that was statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
In Shrewsbury, 63.42% of voters opposed question four, which proposed the limited legalization and regulation of certain natural psychedelic substances. This was 6.62% higher than the statewide opposition rate of 56.80%. The increase in opposition among Shrewsbury voters was statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
In Shrewsbury, 63.06% of voters opposed question five, which sought to raise the minimum wage for tipped workers. This opposition was 1.04% lower than the 64.10% opposition seen statewide. The decrease in opposition in Shrewsbury compared to the Commonwealth is statistically significant at the 95% confidence level.
