SHREWSBURY — On Monday, December 1, 2025, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Shrewsbury Police Officer Jared Locke observed a 2006 Saab sedan traveling eastbound on Boston Turnpike.
According to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department, Officer Locke recognized the vehicle from a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert issued about an hour earlier after the driver allegedly failed to stop for a Massachusetts State Police trooper in Worcester.
Police said Officer Locke attempted to conduct a motor-vehicle stop at the intersection of Boston Turnpike and Lake Street, but the driver made an “abrupt and illegal” U-turn and fled westbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then turned north onto Oak Street, where officers estimated its speed reached 70 mph.
At the T-intersection of Oak Street and Maple Avenue, police said the operator failed to slow down, drove straight across the roadway, and struck a curb, flattening two tires. The vehicle continued into a grassy area before becoming disabled.
Officers Locke and Daniel Sheehan then ordered the driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint and took him into custody without further incident.
During an inventory search of the Saab, the department said officers found five bundles containing approximately 10 grams of fentanyl. The operator, identified as Nicholas Krawiec, also admitted to recently using fentanyl.
Nicholas Krawiec, 27, of South Windsor, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with the following offenses/violations:
- Trafficking a Class A Substance (fentanyl)
- OUI-Drugs
- Failure to Stop for Police
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with License Suspended
- Speeding
- Marked Lanes Violation
