FITCHBURG — One person was transported to the hospital after a fire overtook a residence in Fitchburg Tuesday night.
According to the Fitchburg Police Department, at around 9:11 p.m., on Jan. 7, 2025, fire crews were dispatched to a residence on Charles Street following a report of a structure fire.
“The fire reportedly started in the basement and extended up to the attic due to balloon frame construction,” the Fitchburg Fire Department said in a statement posted on Facebook.
When crews arrived on scene, they quickly established a water supply, stretched attack line hoses, and extinguished the blaze before conducting overhaul operations. The incident went to a second alarm.
The Fitchburg Fire Department said that the cause of the fire was determined to be an overloaded electrical circuit.
One resident of the home was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
“We thank our local communities who assisted both on scene and with city coverage,” the Fitchburg Fire Department said.
